Underground Rock Dissolution and Geomechanical Issues

چکیده

Many soluble rocks will dissolve when in contact with fluid such as water. This transformation of rock solid into flowing may trigger the creation cavities which further lead to either smooth subsidence or sudden collapse land surface. Dissolution phenomenon can be natural human origin. paper deals problem dissolution underground and geomechanical consequences subsidence, sinkholes collapse. In this paper, induced are computed using a Diffuse Interface Model, does not require follow interfaces explicitly. We describe briefly mathematical physical framework for model. first explain transition (upscaling) multiphysics formulated at microscopic (pore-) scale level macroscopic (Darcy-) level. Rock material considered is gypsum, despite that developed method also suitable over (e.g., limestone, Halite). The second part devoted set problems dealing mechanical response mass connection process. discuss by one more gypsum lenses, stability covering, finally failure pillar an abandoned quarry. These examples, while they involve rather theoretical hypotheses, have virtue showing relevance well very diverse issues it treat.

Modelling by homogenization of the long term rock dissolution and geomechanical effects

The geological storage of CO2 coming from large industrial facilities has been studied in detail for the last several years as a solution against the greenhouse effect and climate change in a number of countries. It is considered as a complementary solution together with the research for the non pollutant or/and renewable energy sources. One of the available options is the injection of the supe...

Geomechanical rock properties of a basaltic volcano

In volcanic regions, reliable estimates of mechanical properties for specific volcanic events such as cyclic inflation-deflation cycles by magmatic intrusions, thermal stressing, and high temperatures are crucial for building accurate models of volcanic phenomena. This study focuses on the challenge of characterizing volcanic materials for the numerical analyses of such events. To do this, we e...

Rock dusting considerations in underground coal mines

Rock dusting to prevent coal dust explosions has been in widespread use in U.S. underground coal mines since the early 1900s. Underground coal mining technology has changed significantly over this same time period, becoming highly mechanized and produces finer coal dust particles which are more explosive. Despite the advances in mining technology, mine-wide dust sampling practices have remained...
